Vanderbilt To Introduce Songwriting Competition – Winner To Record With Lamon Records

On March 13, the Next Steps program at Vanderbilt will introduce a new annual student songwriting competition called Vanderbilt Star.

The Next Steps program at Vanderbilt University in association with Lamon Records Nashville and others will introduce a new student songwriting competition to the student body. “Vanderbilt Star” will feature student songwriters performing their work before a panel of local notable Nashville songwriters. Judges will select three finalists, then the audience will vote to determine the first place winner. Top prize includes a single song recording contract with Lamon Records for their song, as well as international distribution.

“Lamon Records is thrilled to be a part of such an event,” says a label spokesperson. “We can’t wait to see the talent to come from this excellent university, as well as support Next Steps. The Next Steps program is vital to our community and close to the hearts of all the staff here at Lamon.”

All proceeds will benefit The Next Steps program at Vanderbilt, a two-year postsecondary education program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program focuses on increasing participants’ vocational, social and independent living skills.

Tickets for the March 13 event can be purchased at the Sarratt Box Office on the card or via Ticketmaster. Students can also purchase tickets on the card at the Commons Center on Feb. 25 and March 11 from 5-7 p.m.
