Moody Family Charitable Fund
Established by Dave and Susan Moody as a confirmation of their spirit of giving and to kindle the passion for helping others in their own family, this Donor-Advised Fund concentrates on these primary areas of giving:
1) education, 2) medical research, and 3) poverty relief.
As part of these efforts, and in honor and memory of Lamon Records founders Dwight L. and Katherine Lucille Moody, the Moody Family Charitable Fund provides for these special ongoing gifts:
• Dwight L Moody Jr Music Education Gifts ~ We believe in the power of music and want to keep music education alive in our schools and communities. In the 60s, Dwight Moody started a music school (Lamon Studio of Music) in Locust, NC where he taught young people and often times their parents too how to play musical instruments. Among his students were his own three sons who before they toured the world as Grammy nominated instrumentalists (The Moody Brothers), they all grew up teaching at the family music store. Literally thousands of people learned to play the “Lamon way” – some for their own enjoyment, but many made music a part of their life-long careers. Through partnerships with the Fender Music Foundation, GRAMMYS In The Schools, and others, we honor the teaching legacy of Dwight Moody by bringing awareness to the importance and need for music, as part of a well-rounded education, and what often moves and touches the very fabric of our soul.
• Kathryn Lucille Moody Caring Gifts ~ In honoring the memory of Kathryn Lucille Moody, we have focused some of our attention to the continued need for the advancement of medical care and research, especially among children and patients with cancer. Like so many families in America and around the world, our lives have been forever changed by this awful disease. We honor mom’s memory by partnering with and supporting St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the T.J. Martell Foundation (Southern Region), and others.
Poverty Relief Gifts ~ “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for me,” Jesus said in Matthew 25:40. Our daughter who was 15 at the time, came to us one day moved to tears wanting to support a child she had seen on TV. We will never forget the anguish she felt as she struggled to select that “one” among the thousands of children in need around the world. It was a reminder of how truly blessed we are, and how there’s so much need and work to do in our own back yard and around the world. We are committed to supporting a number of poverty relief efforts by organizations including Compassion International, the Nashville Rescue Mission, and the Grameen Foundation’s micro-finance initiative.
Word On The Street Ministries
In 2001, Dave Moody along with Pastor Dana Bryan started Word On The Street Ministries as a way to use music and the arts as a tool for Christian outreach around the world. Supporting missionaries in Spain, the Canary Islands, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Costa Rica, and Canada, as well as the US, we partner with others to create outreach events in their communities, as well as supporting missionaries and their churches with encouragement, home and facility repairs, and other real and practical ways to further their work. We are also committed to supporting like-minded Christian artists who are using music, film and other media to impact the world for Christ.
