Alan James grew up in Macon, Georgia, surrounded by music. As a youngster, Elvis was a family favorite. He is now an elementary school teacher with a wife, daughter, and another child on the way. He loves music, but faith, family, friends, and loyalty are paramount to him. Now he is able to merge his two passions. Alan James brings his original praise and worship songs, as well as his friendly spirit, to the Songwriter Series at Lamon Records Nashville. His first project is wrapping up production and will be released in the summer of 2014.
Alan’s musical talents were honed as a drummer. He played in the concert and marching bands in grade school and was even offered a college scholarship to play percussion in the Georgia College and State University jazz band. He chose to reserve his musical talents for the church, accompanying the choir with drums at Liberty United Methodist Church in Macon.
He was given the opportunity to play during several local churches services and soon filled his Sunday morning schedule playing guitar and drums at many locations. He was encouraged by one of the music directors to try singing as well. True to his loyal nature, Alan is still at Liberty leading the worship music team for going on 14 years.
His songwriting inspiration came naturally as his spiritual life grew in maturity. Musically, he draws from artists such as Vince Gill, Eric Clapton, and Chris Tomlin. He began performing his original praise songs to his home church. They were well received, and Alan became encouraged to take his music to the next level.
Building strong relationships, treating people as family, and loyalties are important to Alan. That’s what attracted him to Lamon.
“Once I got up the nerve to reach out and try to get my songs beyond my home and my church, I started researching record companies and came across Lamon’s website… I appreciated everything Dave Moody and his staff had to say and they made me feel so comfortable and welcome. They’re like an extension of family and it was such a positive experience recording this album with them.”
Alan hopes to share the love of Christ with others and impact lives with his music.
“I would love to get my music to the rest of the world in hopes that it might touch others, inspire them, bring them closer to Christ, or just make them feel something. I love music because I love to feel. Hopefully, I could do that for others as well. All of that would be wonderful and an added bonus would be if I was able to pursue music full-time.”
